This site has a reduced environmental impact

Lulled by the illusion of a cloud without consequences, we have let the weight of the Internet balloon since its beginnings. The median weight of a web page has gone from 500 KB in 2010 to 2.6 MB in 2026: a fivefold increase. In the early days of the Internet, a web page weighed barely a few tens of KB. This inflation has an environmental impact: the heavier and more complex sites become, the more  storage space, energy, and sophisticated equipment they require.

Structure that matches needs 

To reduce the environmental impact of our website, we built it by following an eco-design approach. 

The redesign project was launched using the Écumoire Method in order to precisely define our actual needs and eliminate any superfluous elements. 

Compared to the previous version, we have clarified the site structure and improved the content so that it better meets the needs of our visitors. 

Technical choices and optimisations

When developing our website, we followed the eco-design best practices recommended in particular by the Web Eco-Design Reference Framework (RWEB) and the French General Reference Framework for the Eco-design of Digital Services (RGESN). In particular, we have: 

  • optimised and compressed images, 

  • optimised and compressed all text files, 

  • created font subsets to reduce the size of the files concerned, 

  • used progressive enhancement to ensure good backward compatibility, 

  • implemented server-side and browser cache rules. 

Result: a much lighter website

Tested browsers 

We have identified some levers for future improvement: 

  • adopting a lean editorial content policy, 

  • choosing a web host whose environmental commitments are better documented and justified.
